Contraception for Men
COITUS INTERRUPTUS:   Also know as withdrawl.  In typical use this method offers almost no protection against pregnancy and absolutely no protection against sexually transmitted diseases.
MALE CONDOM:  A thin sheath made of latex, sheep intestines or vinyl that is placed over the penis to prevent the sperm from entering the vagina.  This is a fairly good method of birth control with failure rates aproaching 14% and the only method to stop the spread of most sexually transmitted diseases.  WARNING - "Natural" or sheep intestine condoms offer no protection from the AIDS virus. VASECTOMY:  A vasectomy is performed by opening a small hole in the scrotum and separating out one vas-deferans, the sperm carrying tube then removing a small amount of it.  The same procedure is then repeated for the other vas.  Much the same as a tubal-ligation in a woman blocks the movement of the egg to the uterus, a vasectomy interrupts the progress of sperm from the testicle to the seminal vesicles and thus there is no sperm in the ejaculate.  This is a very effective means of permanent birth control.
MALE BIRTH CONTROL PILLS:   Con-traceptive pills for men have been “just over the horizon” for many years. In 2003 and 2005 release seemed months away. However, there is still no male oral or injectable reversible methods is available.

Contraceptive Options

Contraception for Women
BIRTH CONTROL PILLS: At ACCON we strongly believe that the 24/4 day regimen is far superior to the 21/7 day dosing.  The oral contraceptive we recommend for most women is LoEstrin24 FE.(CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO)
VAGINAL RING: Another very reliable contraceptive, especially for women that have trouble with daily medications is the vaginal ring.  This is inserted in the vagina and left for 3 weeks then removed and left out for one week.  Some women find that leaving the ring in for 24 days or even 28 days works better for them. NuvaRing(Click here for more info)
BARRIER METHODS:
Female Condom:  The only method to offer both prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.  Failure rates are reported as high as 14% for contraception.  It is strongly recommended that condoms be used in addition with all other methods to prevent STD’s.        Female Condoms(Click here for more info)Condoms(Click here for condom sales)
Diaphragm: A diaphragm is a shallow, dome-shaped rubber disk with a flexible rim that fits within the vagina and covers the cervix so sperm cannot enter the uterus. Diaphragm(Click here for more info)
Cervical caps: A cervical cap is a latex, thimble-shaped device that is inserted into the vagina and fits snugly over the cervix. Suction keeps the cap in place. A cervical cap provides a barrier to block sperm from entering the uterus and prevents fertilization. Cervical Cap(Click here for more info)
